At the inception of the 20th Century, French classic was the foremost architectural style in México, and in keeping with the trend of the times, the founder of the Gran Hotel Ancira in Monterrey, State of Nuevo León, Don Fernando Ancira commissioned the construction of this grand building to Architect Rangemont, trained at the central school in Paris. The hotel was designed to display its unique elegance and refinement, and the end result was a hotel of extremely good taste. While the hotel was not completely finished, this magnificent building turned out to be of extraordinary attraction and admired by both locals and visitors.

Since then and still today, this magnificent building in its neoclassic style has evoked admiration due to its exquisite ornamentation, both inside and out. Through the years, several remodeling works have taken place inside the hotel, but the original design of its majestic façade has remained intact.

In 1982, the National Institute of Fine Arts and the National Institute of Anthropology and History both granted the recognition of Artistic Monument and Cultural Heritage of the Nation to the Gran Hotel Ancira.
